It’s a good start to the weekend…

I received confirmation today that our stuff will arrive in the UK next week, and I just received confirmation that my Visa is approved and heading back to me!

all-in-all… a good Friday.

Yes… this is my backyard. And yes… this same thing happened the day the house was being packed up to move. This video was taken 26 Sept, but it was a re-enactment of the flooding from the week before as the movers were pulling of of the neighborhood with everything we own packed in a crate.

How much fun can one person have within a week’s span? Well I pretty much found out between the days of the 18th and the 26th (and I can tell you, it wasn’t a helluva lot of fun). But… I survived. Moving on to bigger and better (and dryer) things.

The packers have come and gone…. nothing is left but an empty house with a broken green couch, an air mattress and some smelly dog beds.

Packing went smoothly. Loading the truck was not a problem. Even the dogs cooperated! All in all, it was a successful move. That is, until the weather turned ugly and the basement flooded in the middle of the move. Nothing is ever easy… what fun would that be??

I’m back to baking

finally. back in the kitchen for alittle baking. this time was a chocolate cake as a test trail for the Easter Bunny Cake. so far so good.. no disaster like last year when the cake collasped, and it tastes good. we had to test the basket part and I didn’t take the photo in time.

oh well.

We spent the weekend in Gatlinburg. Highlight of the evening (besides all of the camo we saw), was the tea cups in Dollywood. As much as I love those, we really almost did get sick by going too fast.

First Tree

It’s been a busy few days here… Motoring with the Mini, Turkey Day and now Tree Trimming. Yes we did it. Our first official tree. (pictures are here) It was a rainy, miserable day today in Atlanta (been raining since T-day) so it was, shall we say, less than Christmas-y to be in a parking lot, drenched, buying an overpriced tree from a Russian lady. This isn’t the holiday from my childhood where my Dad and I would drive to the Christmas Tree farm, mark the trees we liked with cut up rags and then eventually end up with one that would always be perfect (mainly because we would forget where the others were). Oh well. This is the south, and if we don’t want a pine tree (since that’s all that grows here), we get our tree from a grocery store parking lot. It took less than 30 minutes to pick it out, pay for it, and throw it in the jeep.

Surprisingly I had plenty of decorations, lights and the whole 9 to 10 yards so it turned out well in the end. The tree is perfect with our Ikea and Target decorations, and we love it. So far the dogs have not pee’d on it (although it’s been less than 4 hours since it’s been up) and it’s still standing.

Thanksgiving 2008

It’s done. The turkey has been roasted and devoured. The coconut cake has been created and eaten. Cranberry sauce… don’t even get me started. We survived another Thanksgiving holiday here at Clairmont Terrace. Our new-ish tradition is to have the actual feast on Friday (seriously…who can: 1) have a job 2) work all day 3) come home on Wednesday to cook all night to 4) have 10+ people over at the house to entertain?!? Not me). This way we prepped on Thursday, had time to relax alittle and still had our big feast for the holiday. All went well – we tried something new this year with a pork crown roast (was terrific) along with the usual of turkey, cranberry sauce, green beans, roasted root vegs, squash casserole (from Mom), sweet potatoes (from Mark), pearl onions with a pumpkin trifle and coconut cake for dessert. Needless to say we were at the gym today.
